Hello, I am Maryam Shariat, the founder and principal of MoreFul.ly, gummy bear aficionado, and native Californian now living in Astoria, NY.
My background is anchored in corporate social responsibility with beginnings in the nonprofit world. My specialty is getting to the core of what makes people tick and using that to design and deploy effective and creative programs and communications. I am motivated by the opportunity to connect people to programs and products to purpose in an effort to drive more responsible and meaningful intersections, partnerships and outcomes across the globe. I love to work alongside intelligent and curious people and am constantly inspired by the capacity for good in this world.
Before starting MoreFul.ly, I led employee engagement at UBS where I designed and executed the firm’s employee engagement strategy and programs (UBS Community Corps) for over 30,000 employees in the Americas region. In addition, I managed employee-facing benefit programs and internal marketing, communications and technology platforms for the Community Affairs & Corporate Responsibility group. During my four years at UBS, I helped build and grow a culture of service increasing employee participation in volunteering by 220%.
Prior to UBS, I spent seven years at Gap Inc. in various marketing, employee engagement, and events focused roles across the organization. Some of my favorite projects included the development and launch of Gap Inc.’s Community Leaders program and my role in the design and execution of the Gap Inc. Leadership Initiative experience for nonprofit leaders.
I was also very proud to spent several years as Project Manager for Reimagining Service, a national, multi-sector coalition focused on increasing the impact of volunteerism. I was also proud for the opportunity to be a Contributor to the “Connecting Youth & Business Toolkit,” focused on re-engaging opportunity youth, which was published in partnership with Opportunity Nation and McKinsey & Company in support of the work of the White House Council on Community Solutions.
Prior to living in New York, I lived in Oakland, CA (Go A’s!) where I attend the University of California, Berkeley (Go Bears!) and developed a deep appreciation for Blue Bottle Coffee and afternoons spent reading by Lake Merritt. Now, living in Astoria, I spend much of my “free” time between hanging out with my boyfriend and 4-year old stepdaughter (especially during sunny days spent on Governor’s Island) and working toward a Master’s Degree in Strategic Communications at Columbia University (Go Lions!).
